Whip It

Whip It is a pungent strain developed by Klutch, the medical marijuana grower in Akron, Ohio, bred to be crisp, citrus-flavored, and great for baking. It was made from a combination of Cookies and Cream plus Miracle Alien Cookies and ends up being a tangy 50/50, Indica/Sativa hybrid that fans of Orange and Sundae strains would probably love. The strain’s medical benefits have been somewhat overstated (we’ll get to that in a bit), but its flavors are complex and interesting to match the relaxing impression you’ll get from it.

The strain’s terpenes include Myrcene, Ocimene, Limonene, and Terpinolene. They give the strain a citrus-sweet flavor, mixed with floral flavors and herbs. Terpinolene is the really interesting one, being less common, and comes with a cocktail of interesting tastes like nutmeg, cumin, the scent of lilacs, and a hint of apple flavor. It’s pleasantly fresh-feeling and completely unique.

The terpene is also known for having antioxidant properties, among other things, which consequently has led some sources to tout the terpene and the strains containing it as “anti-tumor” or “anti-cancer” strains. But what you have to understand when you read claims like that is that the association between being an antioxidant and a cancer cure is a huge leap that requires a lot more clinical research. What Whip It can do is add a fantastic herbal/floral flavor to your baked goods (we recommend using this strain if you like making cannabutter). It can help you relax and fight off stress with a high that comes on fast yet mellow. It’s heady and can handle some of your pain and anxiety. It’s a great strain for chilling out, laying around, listening to music, writing, drawing, watching movies, or otherwise just having a low-key but productive day. It’s not exactly sedating, but it will leave you lying around and relaxing.

The plant’s flowers grow in unassuming patterns of light yellow and green with a crust of crystal trichomes. The strain doesn’t produce a ton of resin and has a THC level of around 20% on average. The strain was named after Devo, also from Ohio, whose chart-topper, “Whip It,” was all the rage 40+ years ago. This tribute strain is a great reason to put the song back on and enjoy a trip back to groovier times! While not the most powerful strain in the world, Whip It has an intriguing flavor and enough kick to mellow out even an experienced user.
