About Honey Boo Boo

Don’t let its cutesy name fool you — Honey Boo Boo is an indica with the potential to knock out even experienced smokers. Ostensibly named for the one-time child star of TLC’s Toddlers & Tiaras, Honey Boo Boo is the creation of DNA Genetics, the breeders who have given us strains like Lemon Skunk and Chocolope. It is a cross between Captain Krypt OG and Bubba Kush. The strain offers a mostly sweet aroma and deeply sedative effects. Honey Boo Boo’s THC content has been ranked at between 15% and 21%.

Honey Boo Boo’s flowers are only small to medium in size and hang together in tight, popcorn-like clusters. They have a roughly spherical shape and a classically indica bud structure, dense and compact at their core with tightly-curling leaves. The leaves themselves are a mossy dark green and are twisted through with brown and rust-colored hairs (which are actually pistils, reproductive structures meant to catch pollen). A coating of translucent white trichomes caps off these flowers, accounting for their psychoactivity.

When properly cured, Honey Boo Boo carries a very sweet smell, with a tang that verges on fermented or overripe fruit. There’s also a fresh, blueberry-like odor lurking underneath to brighten up the overall impression. Meanwhile, breaking up these denes buds yields an intensely skunky odor. When combusted in a pipe or a joint, Honey Boo Boo burns with a harsh smoke that can tickle the palate and trigger a coughing fit. On the exhale, though, this acrid smoke tastes smooth and creamy, with a light fruity flavor.

Unsurprisingly, considering its indica lineage, Honey Boo Boo offers a slow, gradually mounting high. When it arrives, this psychoactive edge brings a rush of blood to the face, resulting in a light pressure around the eyes and a possibly flushing in the cheeks. Following these odd sensations is a distortion of the senses that smokers may experience as an intensification of certain sights and sounds or a warping of depth perception. Slowly but surely, this bud’s trademark physical high shows itself, weighing down limbs and eyelids in equal measure. Any previously active consumers may become suddenly dizzy and make a beeline for the closest couch. Once properly relaxed, smokers can enjoy this strain for its true purpose: to unplug and zone out. Rather than pursuing demanding, work-related tasks or running errands, HHB is great for kicking back to start a long binge-watching session or for a flight of brainstorming or daydreaming. Alternatively, the strain can be a fun way to pass the time with like-minded friends, provoking giggles and good vibes. As time passes or as dosage is increased, Honey Boo Boo’s relaxing properties become even more powerful and can cause smokers to melt into their surroundings Once couch-locked, don’t plan on getting much done. Because of its mostly sleepy characteristics, Honey Boo Boo is recommended for nighttime use.

Honey Boo Boo’s strong sedative properties can also have many applications for medical cannabis patients. It may temporarily take the edge off of stress, depression, and anxiety. It can also soothe physical symptoms, dulling aches and pains whether they’re temporary, as due to injury, or chronic, as due to conditions like lupus or arthritis. The strain’s anti-inflammatory properties can take care of everyday irritations like headaches as well. Finally, in the right circumstances, Honey Boo Boo can lull even the most stubborn insomniacs to sleep. Because it is not known to bring about any paranoid, recursive patterns of thinking, this strain is a good option for patients who are prone to panic or who have a low THC tolerance.

Seeds of Honey Boo Boo are available online directly from DNA Genetics. Once obtained, it can be grown indoors or out, although successful outdoor cultivation requires a semi-humid climate with daytime temperatures between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Plants tend to grow short and bushy; as such, growers should “top” their crops now and then by cutting back any broad fan leaves that may block light and air from reaching any low-growing nodes. Honey Boo Boo flowers within 8 to 9 weeks when grown indoors. At maturity, it offers between 37 to 46 grams (or 1.3 to 1.6 ounces) of flower per square foot of plant.

Honey Boo Boo’s luxurious feelings of relaxation are a great way to wind down after a long day or week of work. If you break this bud out in public, though, be wary that it is very pungent and might just attract some unwanted attention.
