About Hell's Angel OG

Hell’s Angel OG is an indica that has a mysterious past but an indisputable potency. Its name refers to the notorious biker club — and rumor has it that the group was actually responsible for the original cultivation of this strain in Southern California. Some say that Hell’s Angel is a cross between Blackberry and OG Kush, while others claim it’s a distinct phenotype of OG Kush itself. Whatever its background, though, Hell’s Angel is known to deliver knockout indica relaxation with the added benefit of a sour-sweet citric funk.

Flowers of Hell’s Angel OG belie its potency — they are small and have a clustered appearance, similar to popcorn. The little nugs have a classically indica bud structure, dense and tightly-packed. Leaves are a dark shade of forest green and are threaded through with hairy orange pistils. Cloudy white trichomes cover these otherwise unimpressive flowers, giving them a super-sticky texture and making them difficult to break up without the use of a grinder.

The dank odor of damp earth and rotting leaves wafts up from the cured buds. A hint of lemon lurks underneath, brightening up the strain’s flavor profile. Meanwhile, grinding or breaking open the buds gives off a hashy spice, inherited from OG Kush. When combusted, Hell’s Angel OG can be harsh, stinging sinuses and inducing coughing with its pungent, acrid smoke. On the exhale, it tastes like a combination of skunky pine with some subtle lemon.

Hell’s Angel OG has a high that creeps up slowly, starting as a strong pressure around the eyes and temples that may create some dizziness. Users may feel uplifted and even euphoric, happy to engage in free-flowing conversation or to just take a comfortable seat and daydream. As this strain’s physical effects intensify, however, smokers may feel disoriented. At best, in the right set and setting, this can manifest as a positive psychedelic experience. In less favorable circumstances, it can send smokers into a brief panic; breathing slowly and deliberately can help counteract any negative effects. Check out some of our other tips here for calming yourself down when you’ve gotten too high. Ideally, though, Hell’s Angel confers a contentedly couch-locked high that’s best enjoyed at nighttime. This strain can be a whopper for the unprepared. Even very experienced smokers have attested to its destabilizing and long-lasting potency. All this considered, toke carefully — if you’re not feeling the effects after your first puff, give it a few minutes.

Hell’s Angel OG can also be valuable for medical cannabis patients. Its all-encompassing relaxation can provide temporary relief from the symptoms of mild to moderate stress and depression. It can also soothe aches and pains, whether short-term or chronic. Perhaps most obviously, this strain can counteract even the most stubborn cases of insomnia. Although Hell’s Angel comes with little to no cerebral stimulation, it may not be the best choice for cannabis newcomers or for those prone to panic, as its incredible heavy body stone can be alarming.

With such poorly documented origins, Hell’s Angel has not been cultivated for the commercial mass production of seeds. As such, those looking to grow the strain need to obtain clippings from mature plants of the strain in order to grow genetically identical “clones.” Hell’s Angel can be grown indoors or out, although outdoor growing calls for a slightly humid climate with consistent daytime temperatures between 72 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Plants have a characteristic indica shape, with a short and bushy silhouette and strong lateral branching. Like many other indicas, Hell’s Angel has a relatively quick flowering time of 8 to 9 weeks when grown indoors. Outdoors, it can be harvested in late September or early October.

Because of its intensely sedative vibes, Hell’s Angel OG is best enjoyed in a more intimate setting, whether it’s unwinding at home alone after a long week or lounging and watching TV with some close friends. Not everyone is a fan of this heavy hitter, though: in 2014, the Hell’s Angels themselves served a cease and desist letter on a San Diego dispensary ordering them to stop selling this strain under the name Hell’s Angels OG. Hard to say whether they were more concerned with bad publicity or with retaining quality control over the product.
